I read two articles about Dining on Bucks County Herald, December 5, 2024. Barbara gave me the newspaper.

A) Make the holidays even sweeter-and brighter- with your favorite cookies.

Cookies are a treat all year long, but they have special status in December when their appearance at holiday celebration is practically mandatory.

When we take a bite of a favorite, (weather they are chocolate chip, gingerbread or cut-out cookies ), we enjoy a treat that was first enjoyed in 7th-century Persia. When sugar came into use.

Eventually cookies made their way to Europe, and was still called biscuit. We can thank the Dutch for their name; what later was Anglicized to “ cookies” came from “ koekjes,” a diminutive of the word cake. It’s no surprise that the Dutch introduced cookies to the American colonies as early as 1614.

Our favorites evolved over time, but it wasn’t until 1938 that Ruth Wakefield created her first batch of what we know as chocolate chip cookies. By 1941 home cooks could buy her cookbook and use her recipe to make cookies, chopping up a chocolate bar to make chocolate “ chips” until the Nestle company started selling the version of chip we know so well.

B) Duck Donuts Yardley location opens Dec.7

The shop is operated by Kelly Gonsalves, who also owns locations in Allentown, Easton and Levittown.

To celebrate the grand opening, the first guest in line on Dec.7, will received one free dozen donuts per month a year. The next 100 guests will receive the Sprinkling Happiness Package, a dozen donuts and a latte for a future visit.

In addition to doughnuts, the 1,100 square foot Yardley location serves Duck Donuts’ signature coffee blend, donut breakfast sandwiches, donut sundaes, frozen beverages, milkshakes, select retail items, and more.

C) We have a coffee and donuts event once a month, with two donuts per person。Americans love sweets. There are many snacks in China, such as dumplings and buns, which are salty. Chinese people pay attention to ‘umami’.
