编钟兴起于西周，盛于春秋战国直至秦汉。它由大小不同的青铜钟按照音调高低次序排列，悬挂在钟架上，以敲打的方式进行演奏。
曾侯乙墓出土的编钟共65件，包括19件钮钟、45件甬钟及1件楚王熊章赠送的鎛钟，分3层8组悬挂在曲尺形钟架上。
全套编钟共有五个半八度，十二律齐备，可以旋宫转调，音列是现今通行的C大调，能够演奏五声、六声或七声音阶乐曲。[阅读全文]
