她们在社会上被看作是一个特殊的群体。在北京市公安局监所管理处收容教育一所，记者看到，有些未成年姐妹因“犯事”被双双收教；也有女儿刚出去、母亲又进来的。
同为女性，记者在对她们的采访中，更容易听到她们的叹息，了解她们的心情和境遇……
一所收教的女学员，大多来自贫困的农村，年龄从15岁到五六十岁不等，已结婚的占30％，未满18岁的占10％，近一半人是文盲或小学以下文化水平。

据国内一学者新近对这类收教人员进行的心理抽样测试表明，这个群体在社会认知能力、社会意识项目上的得分较高，这表明她们很容易受到外界环境刺激，且具有易冲动的特征，在冲动倾向方面的均值较高，已十分接近具有诊断意义的临界值。她们在典型的外向型项目上的检出比例表明，她们的性格偏于外向，内向型的人较少，说明这部分女性具有外控型人格特征，惯于依外界准则行事。不过，记者在采访中的感受更趋于这样的看法：她们的行为发生是特定的人格与特殊的情境相互作用下的产物，其诱发因素主要包括经济贫困、婚恋不幸、经历紧张性事件、他人鼓动、家人性越轨等。其实她们的生存状态极为悬殊，有的处于艰难求生的边缘，有的则养尊处优……记者在一所见到的大多为前者。
负责对这个群体进行亲情感化和心理矫治的收教所工作人员正在尽最大努力让她们告别过去。但在她们走向未来的路途中，有太多的诱惑和考验。
这也是收教所人员深深忧虑的现实。
