Most streams/rivers go toward outside of mountain area to the area people live, also going down along the rivers can save your energy/power, and relatively warmer (water buffer) in cold weather, and also most rescue teams search rivers area first and easy to be found or get helps. Some basic survive knowledge for surviving in the wild mountain areas.

When lost in such wild environments, best way to survive is to down to the stream/river, and then follows the river going down then you will get some village/small town since most villages are bu the rivers. And also easy to get water/food, etc. to survive, but the only concern is some wild animals will go there for watering, so be careful about them.
