they do recycle U235 from spent fuel. The rest of radioactive materials are the by product of nuclear fission, often long lived (e.g., iodine-129, cesium-137, strontium-90, technetium-99, and plutonium-239). Those are the ones that need long term storage.

Don't know why not re-concentrate 核废料 to get U235, i think it should be cheaper than get U235 from U ore. Anyone has some info about this?
