Do not say everything China did is wrong. In US, there are only a few rivers that can be called free-flow rivers. All big rivers are dammed up repeatedly, some for electricity generation, flooding control and shipping. A few years ago, I met an American professor on airplane. During the discussion, he criticized the Sanxia project saying it is killing the environment along the river. I mentioned this fact and then he did not say anything. Just for the benefit of shipping alone, it makes it possible for the US produced coal to be exported to China. On the other hand, Chinese rivers are not well controlled and managed. If we can dam up the Yellow River, the vast natural resources in the northwest China can be shipped to east China. It will be great for the development for western China.
