不管是贫穷还是福有，健康还是体弱，人都免不了一死。到那时，有些人被死亡吞噬，有些人战胜死亡。我亲眼见过，面对死亡时，靠自己是装不出平安。但他们却是嘴角带笑的离开人世。我认识一对老夫妇，刚来美国探亲时参加朋友的追思会，看到人们讲离世的人的生平逸事时，大家会笑出声，仔细追问才知道，人生归宿不是死亡，老人的人生开始转变。

家人的痛苦来自於对死亡的恐惧，完全理解并同情。 白人同事的孩子早产妖折後说，孩子在天堂安息，有一天会相见。她们认为∶人在地上好比是蚕甬，会有困难，但去天堂，则好像变成蝴蝶，所以他们会说∶。。息了地上的劳苦，上了天家（Rest in peace）。通常人过世时候，灵魂升天，迎接他们的是自己的亲人。西方人对於死亡的解释完全不同於东方，西方人相对平静。
