I think the narrator, ie. the 华裔第二代, missed the most important part of being American Chinese. America is the homeland they and everyone choose to become an American regardless where they were born, thus it is their responsibility to make their country a better place to live in. Along with that,they need to take control of their own life and make the most of it. Life doesn't own anyone anything, each person does.
