Tragedy

The news of the three boys, aged 5, 6, and 11, who were vanished last Wednesday evening and found dead last Friday night in the trunk of a car near where they were last seen, was very upsetting. Law enforcement and many volunteers had searched every possible place, even the car. For some unknown reason the trunk of the car was apparently never inspected until the father of one of the boys opened the trunk and found the motionless bodies. The repeatedly played TV footage of the father aimlessly hopping away from the car in desperation was heartbreaking to watch. He eventually broke down and was carried away from the scene.

How unbearable it must have been for everyone after the long, intensive search to realize that the tragedy could have been prevented. Many believed that the boys were likely suffocated to death and asked the regrettable question many times, “What if one of the many searchers just pondered for a few seconds to think of checking out the trunk?”

My heart goes out to the families and I will be always feeling the stabbing pain for them, especially for that father.
