fifth day, didn't do too much today since i was spending most of my daytime messing up my car's head-unit, it seriously needed a new one (who still plays cassette...). actually, didn't even touch my fedora 8 lappy. but...i did get some advance with my desktop running fedora 7, i successfully set up 5.1 channel on it, movie playback was awesome now! even better than windows, sounded like (literally) true surround sound! now, looks like the only reason of booting into windows partition has gone!!! as always, i didn't figure it out myself, main credit goes to a person named "Uday" on ohio-state.edu, i just added the following codes into my .asoundrc file in home folder:
# for 5.1 speakers
pcm.ch51dup {
slave.pcm surround51
slave.channels 6
type route
ttable.0.0 1
ttable.1.1 1
ttable.0.2 1
ttable.1.3 1
ttable.0.4 0.5
ttable.1.4 0.5
ttable.0.5 0.5
ttable.1.5 0.5
}
