Mama (Spice Girls song)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Mama" was the fourth single off the Spice Girls' debut album, Spice. It was released as a double-A side along with the Comic Relief music video for "Who Do You Think You Are". The single sold in excess of 600,000 copies in the UK.
"Mama" did not receive as much airplay as "Who Do You Think You Are", since it was on the double-A side (which does not often get fully played on television or on the radio) of the track, but was still highly recognized.
Chart Performance
In the UK it was released as a double-A side along with "Who Do You Think You Are", the song topped the charts for three consecutive weeks.
In most European countries the song was released along with "Who Do You Think You Are" reaching the top in Ireland and the top ten in the Netherlands, Sweden and Switzerland. In other countries the song was released as a separate single, in Austria the single become their first and only number one, staying at the top for one week, in Germany and Italy the song was more successful than "Who Do You Think You Are", reaching the top ten in both charts.

Music video
"Mama"The video of the song featured the mothers of all five Spice Girls. In the video the girls are singing to an audience of children and their mothers, about the love they have for their own mothers. It also shows each mother of the girls holding a picture of their daughter. The video also featured actors as the girls, younger, doing various things all together (such as playing and practicing singing/dancing) though none of the girls actually grew up together.
This song was highly popular with children and is still used to celebrate Mother's Day. The length of the song used in the official music video is 3:33, while the actual length of the song is 5:05.
'Mama For Mother's Day'
In early February 2008, a campaign was launched to get 'Mama' back to the top of the UK singles chart. Between February 25th and March 2nd, fans are encouraged to download the song, for Mother's Day, in hope that the song charts highly on 2nd March, the day of the celebration.
