i sent my resumes all over the world. but lately no interview. this afternoon, someone called me. i was apparently happy about it after i learned that he had a rack open. again, as usual, he asked what i had been doing for the last 2 and half years, my replies were already ready: i did my MA in english (online of course). i was not 100% truthful about it because i did not disclose my love songs i wrote recently. then he went on asking me a few simple questions which i answered to the best of my knowledge with some added dry humor. although i did not know if he was pleased with my efforts, i knew that i was doing everything i could to ingratiate myself with him. at one point, i was telling myself maybe this was it, after all, jobs were not too hard to come by. while i was hallucinating in my own fantasy world, i felt cold water being poured onto my head: \'did you know how to compute entropy of a language, say english, or chinese? how is information entropy related to the second law of thermodynamics?\' he interrupted my dream. \'what?, i thought this was a statistics position, not a language or a physics position\' i was surprised. \'well, everything is related\', he said, \'this position does not seem a fit for you. i am looking for someone who has this type of experience\'. i knew that i did not know anything about entropy and had never heard of it, whatever i would continue to say would cut no ice with him. i therefore thanked him for calling me and told him that i wish i had known those deep stuff. then we hung up.
