Easy steps to a healthy lawn

Step 1: Prepare

After the long winter, get your lawn ready for the summer.

In early spring, once the ground has dried and is firm to walk on, rake the lawn to remove debris and loosen soil. If the thatch layer is thick, use a manual or electric dethatcher instead of a garden rake. Then, aerate the lawn to encourage deep roots.

Step 2: Repair

Take care of damaged areas first.

In early to mid-spring, when the soil temperature reaches 15°C (60°F), repair lawn damage. Use an all-in-one patch repair product containing grass seed and fertilizer with soil conditioner to reverse soil damage to repair salt or pet damage. For other bare patches, use a 3-in-1 patch repair containing seed, mulch and fertilizer.

Step 3: Strengthen

Add new life to your soil and lawn to maintain a thick, healthy lawn and prevent weeds.

Overseed the entire lawn in early to mid-spring for a thicker, healthier lawn. First, apply a layer of lawn soil and starter fertilizer and raking lightly, then apply grass seed and rake lightly again OR apply all 3 steps in one using 3-in-1 lawn thickening mix and a spreader. Be sure to keep the newly seeded area moist for the first few weeks to ensure germination.

Step 4: Maintain

Keep your lawn looking thick, green and healthy all summer long to make it less susceptible to damage from weeds, insects and grubs.

In late spring and throughout the summer, regular mowing, watering, weeding and fertilizing are important to maintain the health of your lawn. 3" or higher is the optimal height setting for your mower. Water your lawn once a week, early in the morning. Remove weeds as they appear and remember to fertilize every 2 months.
