A Verse by Shu Dan (Soong dynasty)
(To Gong Du, A Dear Chum)
Limped lotus, lake, and sky blend into grey,
Dusk turns waves into a mist-maze,
Crossing cold clouds, two swifts fly their own way,
By the handrail of East Tower, alone I gaze...
I’d better float my aging life in wine,
Since Chang’an roads slumber in snow,
Soon you climb a high place, dear chum of mine,
To send me a plum twig full of southern spring’s glow.
