哥林多后书第三章第1—5节，保罗对哥林多教会的弟兄们说，他出去传福音并不需要哥林多教会的弟兄们为他准备推荐信，正像当初向哥林多的弟兄们传福音的时候没有带任何其他人的推荐信来一样。保罗说，其实哥林多教会的弟兄们本身就是他的推荐信，这封推荐信不是用墨写的，而是用神的灵所写的，也不是写在石版上的，而是写在哥林多教会弟兄们的心版上的。哥林多的众弟兄们是保罗众人所服事的，众弟兄们的信心与行为也被众人所诵读。保罗说他并不是凭自己能承担什么事，他所能承担的都是来自于神，来自于神对保罗的启示和一切的赐予。
林后3:1 我们岂是又举荐自己么．岂像别人、用人的荐信给你们、或用你们的荐信给人么。
Are we beginning again to commend ourselves? Or do we need, as do some, letters of commendation to you or from you?
林后3:2 你们就是我们的荐信、写在我们的心里、被众人所知道所念诵的。
You are our letter, written in our hearts, known and read by all men;
林后3:3 你们明显是基督的信、借着我们修成的．不是用墨写的、乃是用永生 神的灵写的．不是写在石版上、乃是写在心版上。
being revealed that you are a letter of Christ, served by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tablets of stone, but in tablets that are hearts of flesh.
林后3:4 我们因基督所以在 神面前才有这样的信心．
Such confidence we have through Christ toward God;
林后3:5 并不是我们凭自己能承担甚么事、我们所能承担的、乃是出于 神．
not that we are sufficient of ourselves, to account anything as from ourselves; but our sufficiency is from God;
