Forty percent of Chinese think there should be a consumption tax on luxury items.
Luxury items are jewelry, VIP club memberships and such...things that people with money can afford to pay tax on.
Horizon Research conducted a survey. Not surprisingly, low-income earners preferred the rich get taxed whereas high-income earners didn't seem to care one way or the other.
In a dual attempt to narrow the gap between the rich and poor AND to regulate energy consumption, on April 1st the government imposed a consumption tax on:
1. wooden chopsticks
2. wooden floor panels
3. yachts
4. luxury watches
