My Blue Escort

My '92 Escort was light blue. After every car wash, the hidden color would shine through, making it look like new.

My Escort had automatic safety belts, so I never failed to buckle up. Its power steering was poor, which exercised my arms alot. The seats were comfortable, but A/C not cool enough,so I used to drive with windows down and musics up.

The first time when I got onto the freeway, I tried to accelerate to the speed of other cars, but all the other cars still passed my 4-year old Escort swiftly. Later I learned that my Escort only had 88hp, so I had to step on gas pedal harder when entering the ramp or passing huge trucks.It was heavy and stable in the wind,so one year later I used to drive it at 80mph on freeway, which made me feel like driving a sporty car. It was not heavy enough since it slipped to turn around at a corner twice on icy snow, not fun drift at all.

I had a special attachment to my car, although it was not a reliable Honda or Toyota. Most of the problems with my Escort were related to the battery in the winter, so I replaced battery every other year. The left corner of its front pumper was hit once by a speeding car, but the bumper was still attached well with a small hole on the corner, which made me feel Ford's structure is safer. Finally the suspension was stiff, and the engine run rough (up to 4000rpm to get over 70mph), which limited me to drive it in the right lane only on freeway to keep it running under 3000rpm. My blue 92'Escort was replaced by a golden 99'Taurus due to the harsh suspension and slippy overdrive at 110k miles. I can't forget my Escort, it was my first lover in US.
