One of my friends recommended a movie to me--- The Lake House, whose Chinese name is触不到的恋人.
The movie was about the love between Kate and Alex (by the way, I love their names) and the lake house as well, which belonged to Alex but also served as Kate’s harbor of comfort. The lake house, the magic mailbox outside and the dog Jackie were the connections between them as they were separated in time by two years. Alex lived in 2004 while Kate was in 2006.
The story started with Kate’s request of asking the new tenant Alex for forwarding her mails. By exchanging mails through the magic mailbox, they gradually fell in love. Surprisingly, they figured out they actually not only met but also danced and shared a romantic moment as well before. Determining to bridge the distance between them and unraveling the mystery behind their connection, they finally decided to arrange a meeting in real life. However, Alex was killed by a car on Valentine’s Day when he was trying to meet Kate, who was having her lunch cross the street. Kate unfortunately did not realize the man who died in her arms when she tried to save his life was just Alex.
I guess the director managed to give audiences a happy ending although it seemed less of logic. When Kate found out the truth of Alex’s death, she desperatly sent a message through the magic mailbox and asked Alex to wait instead of meeting her by crossing the street. Miraculously, Alex was back, back to her eventually.
Honestly, this story is not as touching as I expected since it is somehow illogic (or maybe I set too much expectation). Nevertheless, it doesn’t hurt to enjoy a romantic story. It does remind me of something else------ internet relationship (sure, there are other kinds such as pen pal).
There are some similarities between internet relationship and Kate&Alex’s love. Both suffer time and distance gaps. Frequently, one is easy to reach the other’s mind by emails or blogs without touching or meeting the other face to face in real world. What the untouchable relationship intrigues people most may lie in broad imaginary space and happiness of sharing similar thoughts with each other. One enjoys the other’s passion and spirits without caring too much of his/her flaws in reality as people tend to pursue perfection. Life is full of occasions and coincidences. You never know what will happen to you. Just believe there is always a good reason for someone to walk into your life.
