Someday we'll gaze beyond these shores,
Past the rock face twinkling,
Across rippled stretches of white beach.
Dappling the sands rest cherished memories.
Shimmering grains of bygone faces,
Sunwarmed pebbles of ageless friendships,
Glittering conches of hopes and chances,
Scattered crystals of innocence,
All churning between forgotten granules.
And so the swirling waves build destinies,
Calibrating our pasts,
Sand and gravel layer by layer,
Perchance bringing beauty of translucent shells
or a sadly sodden twine of Nepturne's necklace,
Kissed oever by regressions of green foam,
Which endows all softly
With the faltering glimmer of yesterdays.
Nostalgia guards our treasured memories,
Those sea worn jewels,
Each encrusted with grains of time.
At rare moments only examined in a dream,
Fitting together a time worn puzzle,
With few matching pieces.
Dissecting what is passed.
And hungering for what might have been
While we nestle under the blanket
Of another time...
For only when slumber tips away,
Can we rise and walk to the water's edge.
And wake to what the sea has brought!
