The potential problems of driking too much can be two folds: 1) get liver problems (脂肪肝\肝硬化)and 2)become addicted to alcoho. Either way, the person is pretty much finished. So don't become alcoholic.

The effect of wine to prevent cardiovascular events appears to be mediated by multiple mechanisms. Some of the long lasting effects on lipid metabolism seem to be mediated by ingradients from grape seeds. Some effects on platelets are short lasting. You loose the cardiovascular protection due to inhibition of aggregation of platelets if you do not drink frequently. Most people believe that you need to have one drink a day in order to have the protection. It is less important what type of alcohol you choose to drink. These are working hypotheses and opinions. This is a an area with active research and new findings are reported almost everyday.

Do you have scientific evidence? I'm not medical doctor.
But I tend to think that it should have some kind of long-term (or at least longer than one day) effect.
