DR. KARP 认为婴儿呱呱坠地离开母体的时候,大脑已发育健全而身体其他部分仍在发育期。婴儿出生三个月后才能渐渐学习适应里开母体的生活。在这三个月里,因为离开了子宫的保护,婴儿常会感到不安全因而哭闹,所以5S理论是以模仿子宫环境给婴儿安全感为基础的。

1 SWADDLING:用包巾包裹宝宝。


DR. KARP主张SWADDLING为后面四个S的基石;没错,光是把宝宝紧紧包起来并不足以止住宝宝的哭闹,但包起来却能使后面四招发挥事半功倍之效。


此外,即使是天生性格就比较安静、不怎么需要使出这5S'S的宝宝,夜间SWADDLING也能帮助他们睡得更久更安稳。


 


实施重点:紧,愈紧愈好!﹝想像宝宝在子宫里头那副侷促得很安稳的模样;中国的妈妈很多都是此招箇中高手,这招应该不用多说了。﹞

2 SIDE/STOMACH:让宝宝侧躺或俯卧。


绝大多数的宝宝好的时候仰著躺就很开心满足了,可是宝宝一旦开始哭闹,很多父母的本能确实就是让宝宝换个姿势。


 


书上教的一种叫做“FOOTBALL HOLD”(俯卧)的抱法:让宝宝趴在弯在胸前的前臂上,脸侧向一边,四肢自然垂下﹝就像挂在树枝上睡著的小猩猩...

3 SHHHHING(发“诗”的音):用力在宝宝耳边制造嘘声。


对付狂哭不止的宝宝除了用嘘声外,美国父母传统上还有几个效果近似的招数:打开吹头髮的吹风机﹝还不能是那种温柔的嗡嗡声,一定要是超粗鲁吹风机的疯狂怒吼!﹞,打开吸尘器或是录制以上各种吵闹家电的录音带以便随时播放、以及将收音机故意调不准频道制造唏嗦的白色噪音等等。


 


原因:很简单,模仿宝宝在子宫里听到的、血液汩汩流过动脉的声音。


实施重点:宝宝哭的愈凶,所需噪音就愈大。﹝但要以不伤害宝宝听觉为原则!﹞宝宝如果安静下来了,就可以移远或者关闭噪音源。

4 SWINGING:摇、晃、震动宝宝。


这招已经堪称所有为人父母者的本能了。基本上,宝宝一哭,哪个父母不是本能地随手一抄,把宝宝抱起来摇摇抖抖拍拍!


 


以下是DR. KARP整理出来的十大传统方法:


1 使用婴儿背巾


2 抱著宝宝轻快地跳舞


3 使用婴儿专用秋千


4 有节奏地轻拍宝宝的背或屁屁

5 SUCKING:吸奶嘴。


这第五个S已经算是锦上添花了。


基本上,前四个S应该就已经足以让哭闹的宝宝镇定下来,


这最后一招主要功用是在让宝宝KEEP CALM,甚至沉沉睡去...﹝所以英文奶嘴才叫做PACIFIER啊!﹞

最后要说的是,使出这5S'S时的两大要点原则:


一是VIGOR,也就是该用力该大声的时候千万不要手软;但也不要过度摇动,防止宝宝骨骼受伤。


二是INSISTENCE,切记宝宝的情绪转换慢,从哭闹切换到安静要一些时间。


 


要注意的事项:


第一,注意安全,宝宝出生后身体骨骼非常脆弱,一定要防止剧烈摇摆伤害宝宝。


第二,如果使用了5S宝宝仍哭闹不止,要考虑找医生。


第三,包裹时如果温度过高宝宝会出汗或者鼻子耳朵温度升高,要及时解开降温。
