Before we talk about soft skills, we have to understand what hard skills are.
Hard skills: skills that one appreciates.
Take a couple of examples on this page:
A: “好处就是,电厂会帮你拿到PE(注册工程师牌)”
B: am a MBA, I do not do shipping
A considers PE as a hard skill; B considers MBA as a hard skill.
We may also hear, “Don’t do MBA. It’s a waste of time.” In this case, MBA is not a hard skill to this person.
Now we are ready to define soft skills. It’s everything but hard skills to you.
IF (big IF) it’s not luck, such as winning lottery, one achieves something you appreciate but doesn’t have enough hard skills, then it must be that this person has some soft skills. The most important thing to remember is that hard skills or soft skills are all from your stand point, so your hard skills may not be others’ hard skills. The soft skills you don’t appreciate (or don’t even know their existence because they are not visible to you) may be hard skills to others.
Understanding soft skills will eliminates all negative complaints.
The market is always right.
