#1 Musical Wizards~Concert Day - Chpt 5

Chapter 5

The next day at school, each student got a brochure telling about the up-coming competition next week. We were glad that we were performing the same song we practised. I read my brochure at recess, even though today was Tuesday. You wanna know why I didn’t go practise today at recess? Well, nobody did. Master Lolly was sick and she could not find a sub for her music classes. So we didn’t get to practise. But it was a good thing that I could read my brochure. At lunch recess I can go find Ally and Lana and we can play some games. But this recess I wanted to find out about the competition.

I read out loud quietly. “The 4th annual musical competition at Honeybee Valley Community Centre is coming up on August 1st, 2008! The performers will need to focus on the sound of their instrument, the speed, cooperating with the band, and their position. All instrument players may attend the competition. Please note that there will be a piano if any players feel confident in competing with the piano. Please bring your own music book and instrument. Each teacher must talk to us to tell us the seating setups required for your band. Our number is 547-211-8998. Please feel free to call us. Our e-mail address is honeybeemusic@yahoo.com. Please feel free to e-mail us.

“First place is the band that has played the most creative song with a beautiful sound. The winning band has used the most cooperation and has included everyone that is part of the band. Each member of the winning band will each receive a gold medal. There will be a special gold trophy that is to be kept as a class. This band will also get $500.00 that is to be split up among the students to share with their families. They will also get a free 2 month trip to Music/> Land/>/>.” I frowned.

“Second place is the band that has most or almost all of the required elements. Each member of the band will receive a silver medal. There will be a special silver trophy that is to be kept as a class. This band will also get $100.00 that is to be split up among the students to share with their families. They will also get a 90% off 3 week trip to Music/> Land/>/>.” I frowned again. What was going on? Isn’t everywhere for music?

“Third place is the band that has some or many required elements. Each member of the band will receive a bronze metal. There will be a special bronze trophy that is to be kept as a class. This band will also get $50.00 that is to be split up among the students to share with their families. Each member will also receive a certificate and a free ticket to watch Music/> Land/> movies in the Honeybee/> Valley/>/> theatre.”

People are talking about Music/> Land/>/> everywhere! Does this place even exist? Well, I do know the answer, since I am in this story so I know what happens next. But at that time I did not know a clue about this place Music/> Land/>/>. After a few more minutes I found out that none of the competition winners got to go, and only this year’s winner will get to go. I decided there and then that we had to win!

Finally, I finished reading the brochure. I was not surprised that most of the winners were 12 and up. That was because we practised really hard. We had to beat the Music Delight Band (that was the other band we practised with in the gym yesterday, if you remember) and the other bands in the competition. We had to be one of the top 2!

I looked over at Ally. She was still reading. But then I realized she was staring at her brochure with a puzzled look on her face. “Are you finished?” I asked. “Yes…” she replied slowly, “but I’m confused…” “About what? Oh, right, the Music/> Land/>/> thingy-ma-jig,” “How d’you know?” Ally asked. She was really puzzled now. “I got confused too,” I said. “What is this, a joke?” “I think so…but hey!” “What?” What did Ally know that I didn’t?

“Remember that day we walked by the movie theatre and we saw an ad that said a new fantasy movie was coming up?” “Right! And the name was Music Land 1!” “Could it be…” “Are we going into a movie?” I was really confused now, maybe even more confused than Ally, because it seemed to me that she understood something. “No! It means we’re going into a magical thing!” “A…magical thing?”

“What I mean, is that, maybe, just maybe, Music/> Land/>/> is somewhere magical,” Ally explained. I just stared. “Huh?” Ally sighed. There was silence. “Do you believe in magic?” she tried again. “Uh…maybe. So what?” “Now if nobody knows about this place Music/> Land/>/>, and it’s in a fantasy movie, then don’t you think…yeah?” Now I understood. I nodded my head. “So your point is that you think that Music/> Land/>/> is not a real place, but people who uses effort and believes in themselves can see this place?” “YES! You finally understood!” Ally cried. Brrriinng! Well, too late to say more, recess is over. But I was lucky enough to understand!

Ally and I skipped inside and practically jumped up the stairs. We were going to a magical place! But if we didn’t practise hard we would never win the competition! Ally and I sat down at our desks. I took out my laptop and got ready for computer class. I turned on my laptop and logged on to www.twyf.sa while I waited for Master Tann to enter the class. I started talking to xxccv123, our friend, Kayla Violet Excie who is in the other class and lives 2 blocks down from Ally. Her last name sounded like “XC”, so her username became xxccv123. She put “v” in it because her middle name was Violet, and she put 123 in it because there were 3 kids in her family. She had an older sister named Roselle Brianne Excie, and an older brother named Ryan Ziolee Excie. I was just writing a message to her when Ally () joined the conversation.

I was glad when Master Tann walked into the classroom. We were going to start computer class, and then it would be recess again, when finally we will get to play.
