Covey discusses that some of us are spouse-centered, family-centered, career-centered, money-centered, possessions-centered, pleasure-centered, friends-centered, self-centered and enemy-centered. The problem with being centered around these things is that they will always fail us; your spouse may cause you grief, you may lose your job or do things you dislike, your friends may leave you, etc. When we center ourselves around these things, the things that are temporal and what Christians know as broken, we will always come up short and sacrifice something for it. If you are possessions oriented you will spend your entire life trying to obtain things, and you may ignore your family in order to work hard enough to earn the big bucks to buy those things you care so much about.
