INT. COMMANDANT'S OFFICE -- DAY
Avdayev reviews documents and nods to Moshkin.
AVDAYEV
That old man, Terenty Chemodurov, Nicholas' valet, is senile and sick. Take him to a hospital ward in Ekaterinburg City Prison.
MOSHKIN
Nagorny and Sednev should be removed from here too. They're threatening, tall and strong.
AVDAYEV
So, imprison them in Ekaterinburg City Prison.
MOSHKIN
It's better to get rid off them thoroughly.
EXT. EKATERINBURG CITY PRISON -- NIGHT
Nagorny and Sednev are struck down while a Bolshevik soldier aims at them and shoots.
INT. BEDROOM -- IPATIEV HOUSE -- DAY
Alexei leans against the wall to let Leonid mark off his height on the wallpaper with a pencil. Alexei writes "MAMA" and "PAPA" next to the other two line of height beside his.
Alexei takes out a toy bow and arrow set and fondles it. Alexei sharpens the arrows with a penknife, props himself against the window frame and shoots an ARROW out over the sill.
EXT. UNDER THE WINDOW -- DAY
The arrow flies beyond the palisade and narrowly misses hitting a sentry posted guard beside the palisade. The sentry immediately shoots at the window.
INT. BEDROOM -- DAY
Alexei is scared and crouches on the floor. Leonid hides himself behind the wardrobe.
In the commotion of loud outcry and scolding, the door is kicked open. Avdayev rushes in and stares at Alexei.
AVDAYEV
(roaring)
Damned kid, what the hell are you doing? It's so dangerous. You may bring further disaster to your family, do you know that?
ALEXEI
I'm so sorry, Commandant. Please forgive me.
AVDAYEV
(indulgently)
I warn you, from now on, you're allowed to play with your bow and arrows only in the garden, nowhere else, remember?
ALEXEI
(reluctantly)
Okay, Sir, I remember.
AVDAYEV
(strictly)
If you don't obey, your toys will be completely confiscated, do you understand?
ALEXEI
Yes, Sir.
Avdayev shakes his head and leave.
A soldier enters and glues the window shut. Then the soldier removes the toy rifle from Alexei.
INT. STAIR HALL -- DAY
Anastasia frolics with the dog Jemmy, performing comic mimes as though in a circus. A guard passes by and laughs.
ANASTASIA
We're so bored. Let's have fun. Hey, you guy, try to mimic the dog's bark.
GUARD
(mimicking bark)
Whoa, whoa, Ha ha.
ANASTASIA
(giggling)
What fun. Try it again. Ha ha.
Anastasia follows Jemmy running toward the hallway leading to the bathroom and lavatory. A guard, on duty at the Post two, smiles and winks at the scene.
ANASTASIA (CONT'D)
Hey, you guy, go away. Let my dog get into the bathroom. Otherwise, he'll make a mess.
GUARD ON DUTY
You silly girlie, don't distract me, I'm on duty.
ANASTASIA
Look, my dog pees at your feet.
The guard on duty retreats, steps over the passing dog, slips on the floor and falls.
GUARD ON DUTY
Damned dog, you hurt my buttock. I'll kill you.
Anastasia pretends to be frightened, holds Jemmy closely, hurries away with the dog, and then bursts into laughter, leaving alone the guard who massages his buttock in pain.
INT. COMMANDANT' OFFICE -- NIGHT
Moshkin and some soldiers drink and sing revolutionary songs.
INT. CORRIDOR -- NIGHT
With her jaundiced eyes, Alexandra looks for someone. A guard on duty approaches her.
ALEXANDRA
You guys, stop making so much noise.
GUARD
Well, we can make all the noise we like to. We aren't the prisoners, you are.
INT. SHED -- NIGHT
Piled in the shed are Romanovs' personal and household objects: furniture, rugs, porcelain, crystals, paintings, books, photographs, etc.
Some drunken soldiers enter and put various things in their sacks and bags. A few soldiers sort through a pile of undergarments and bodices and sniff them, laughing and grunting. They take off the jewels sewn on the clothes and explore further.
EXT. SHED -- NIGHT
The drunken soldiers stagger out of the shed and put the full sacks and bags on horses and in carts.
