“I took her hand in mine, and we went out of the ruined place; and, as the morning mists had risen long ago when I first left the forge, so, the evening mists were rising now, and in all the broad expanse of tranquil light they showed to me, I saw no shadow of another parting from her.”
“我搀起她的手，一起走出这片废墟。当年我离开铁匠铺的时候，晨雾已经弥漫在天际，现在，夜雾也正在缓缓地升起来。宁静的月光透过雾气，撒向大地，在那里，我再也看不到我们还会分离的影子。”
一直非常喜欢狄更斯小说《远大前程》的这段结尾句子（但愿我的神翻译还算是正确理解并有效表达了狄更斯的原意。）。
尽管《远大前程》的结尾描绘了一个大家希望的美丽结局，就我看来，结尾实际写得非常的勉强。狄更斯出彩的文笔掩饰不住故事苍白的逻辑脉络。
匹普那天旧地再访，应该是临时起意。原文说：“I secretly intended to revisit the site of the old house that evening, alone.”（我暗自打算今晚独自去看一看那老宅。）。
然后，匹普和艾斯黛拉意外相逢时，
艾斯黛拉说："I have never been here since." （我离开后再没来过。）
匹普说："Nor I." （我也没有。）
这么多年了，两人都是第一次（随机）的回访。可就那么凑巧就遇上了。小概率事件还真会发生啊。（我的数学老师啊，想起来当年你可糊弄得我们不浅啊。）
另外，匹普在去之前和比蒂的对话里还说： “But that poor dream, ..., has all gone by, all gone by!"（那个可怜的梦，。。，已经过去了，完全过去了。）
可是艾斯黛拉一句话就让这昔日的穷小子弯下腰去捡起旧梦来。
艾斯黛拉先是说："I have often thought of you," said Estella.（我一直常想着你。）。然后当艾斯黛拉说："I little thought," said Estella, "that I should take leave of you in taking leave of this spot."（我不曾想到，到这儿来和这里告别还能遇见你，和你也一起告个别。）。这时匹普赶紧抓住机会：“To me, the remembrance of our last parting has been ever mournful and painful."（对我来说，一想起我们上次的离别，就让我感到伤心和痛苦。）。
最后，艾斯黛拉只是说：“And will continue friends apart.”（即使分别我们还是朋友。），可匹普却自说自话地认为“再也看不到离别的影子”。这都是啥一厢情愿的事！
当然，我们不能怪匹普，更不能怪艾斯黛拉。我们只能说：狄更斯先生，你的小说是很牛，可你也不能这么为了取悦读者而干拉郎配的事儿啊。
