There has been lots of talks about “Crazy Democrats, left extremist who give welfare to lazy people to buy their votes but bankrupt the country" on the right-wing media. There are also lots of talks about “Trump’s republicans, who care about millionaires and Billionaires only."
Well, I am interested to find between Democrats and Replicants, which party represent the majority of American voters and which party represent the majority of American economic engine.
From the first glance, one would see the following facts:
Among 100 senators, Replicants have 53 seats and Democrats have 47 seats. So it is 53/47
Among 435 House of representatives, Replicants have 201 seats and Democrats have 236 seats, so it is about 46/54.
Senate and congress combine, it close to a wash, American is equally divided between 2 major parties.
Is it really?
I took some effort did some research on each of 50 States and collected the following data points:
- Population
- GDP
- # of seats in Senate Occupied by each party in the state
- # of seats in congress Occupied by each party in the state
Once I collected the data, I did the following calculations for each state:
- population represented in senate by each party
- population represented in House by each party
- GDP represented in senate by each party
- GDP represented in House by each party
After summing up the data to the federal level, I got the following table:

This data indicates that Democrats represent the majority of American people in both Senate and Congress, Democrats represent the majority American economic engine in both Senate and Congress as well.
This article does not endorse Democrat’s policy by any means. It simply states the fact that the majority of American people supports Democrat’s policy and more than 57% of American GDP is produced by people who lean to Democrat’s policy.
As late Senator from NY Daniel Patrick Moynihan once said, “Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but not to his own facts.”
