Janice Woods Windle's novel "Real Women" inspired the made-for-TV film. From the Texan Revolution to the early women's suffrage movement, the video spans approximately fifty years of mid-19th-century women's history. Three women—Sarah Ashby McClure, Euphemia Ashby King, and Georgia Lawshe Woods—face life in the American West.

During the Texas Revolution, Dana Delany plays Sarah Ashby McClure, a strong-willed woman who moves to Texas with her family. Sarah is motivated to provide for her children and defend her family after losing her spouse and home. Sarah's sister, Euphemia Ashby King, is played by Annabeth Gish. Angelina Jolie plays Georgia Lawshe Woods, a strong, independent woman who succeeds in business.

The three women's love, battle, and adventure story spans the film. . While the protagonists fight for independence and equality, the film explores sisterhood, parenting, and women's rights.

"Real Women" is a powerful and moving video about Western women's strength. The historical accuracy, lead actresses' performances, and attention to detail make it a must-see for women's history and American West buffs.
