辽兵侵宋，在九龙飞虎谷摆下天门阵。杨宗保奉元帅杨六郎之命，去穆阁寨取降龙木来破阵，与寨主穆桂英结为夫妻。后因六郎患重病，宋真宗拜宗保为帅，统率全军破了天门阵，一举攻陷了辽邦的京城幽州。
