读报 arts & galleries

I read three articles about arts & galleries, on Bucks County Herald August 1, 2024. Barbara gave me the newspaper.

1) NH-S School District parters with New Hope Arts to enhance campus with contemporary art.

The installations represent various artistic styles and materials and showcase the work of a diverse set of local artists.

Christine Ramirez, executive director of New Hope Arts, emphasized the significance of the collaboration: “ We believe it’s vital to expose students to a variety of art forms.”

Ramirez see this initiative as a catalyst for sparking student’s interest in art.

The installations are dedicated to promoting local artists and providing the community with opportunities to engage with art in public spaces.

The selected artworks include “Dancer,” crafted from concrete and marble terrazzo by Ghanaian artist Mike Gyampo.

Philadelphia-based artist Melanie Serkes contributed “Housing,” a sculpture crafted from cast concrete and powder-coated steel.

The collection is rounded out by “ Dodecahedron Star,” an impressive glass structure by renowned artist Ray King.

2) New Hope exhibition showcases “ Timeless Art” from trio of artists.

“Timeless Art,” a major exhibition of painting and sculpture by three accomplished artists, can be seen Saturdays and Sundays , Aug .3—Sept.8 at the New Hope Colony foundation for the arts.

The exhibition focuses on three artists, two of whom are over 80 years of age.

Sculptor Ashby Saunders models clay and bronze into exuberant sculptures. He began sculpting as an adult. Saunders continued to sculpt until he was 85. His work can be seen in public parks in Bucks County.

Aurelia is a self-taught painter. Her paintings hang in private collections throughout the United State, Europe, and Asia. She is president of the Delaware Valley Music Club.

Jacalyn Beam’s paintings, especially her plein air landscapes, are wildly recognized and collected for their historical and visual appeal. She exhibits throughout the U.S. and her work has been published by multiple magazines and books. She serves in Delaware Arts Council.

3) Artists’ Gallery exhibits “ Surroundings”

The Artist’s Gallery presents “Surrounding”, featuring Bill Jersey and Claudia Fouse Fountains. “ Surrounding” brings the focus closer to home, to what we see around us every day. It turns out it can be as inspirational as anything else if we take the time to look carefully.

At the age of 97, Jersey still explorers life with what he calls a fresh eye. He says: “ We are surrounded by rich memories. I choose to preserve them with paint and brush.”

Fountaine is intrigued by the quirky and the mundane. A snow-man, the shelves overflowing with strange things, a dog relaxing in a patio. These are some of the “Surroundings” Fountaine has chosen to depict.

4) Chinese students and parents pay more attention to test scores and less attention to artistic hobbies and studies. When I was in middle school and university , I don't remember having art or music classes. However, there are some art club activities , which provide opportunities for students with art interests to grow.

I study at Beijing University. Beijing University has a water tower, designed as a very beautiful 13-story building! Every Beijing University student will never forget it.

I don't want there to be many art works in school, but I hope there should be a room with all the teachers' photos hanging inside. I miss my teachers!
