Cloud of Unknowing
(1)
Clouds of unknowing, scent of half passed Spring,
dance your last dance into my soul! stars flow
above the uncertain sky where you watch over
me during the night. You call this: love.
(2)
Hard labor, incessant worry, I wish to see
the intent of the day, the power of present:
a sort of life vain in nature. How would you
rescue me from all these diverse necessities?
(3)
Lying in the dark, your voice comes and goes,
the radiator of pure light by which I have
been sustained so far. Lo, Living water!
I am never skilful at being comforted.
