Talking about MARTA, or the subway system in Atlanta, there's something worths to be mentioned. My former boss, CPA, Mr. Don Sklar traveled by the subway every day to work. He's Jewish and donates regularly to Israel. So, it's not just poor people like I was commuting on subway. He might be originally from NYC. That's my guess, in the South for an accountant who owned a BMW to ride on subway daily doesn't make sense.

I took greyhound many times when I was a new immigrant, then a soldier. There's discount for GI traveling on long distance bus and there's a huge storage place under the bus for duffle bags.
Public transportations, I used it for 12 years before moving to North Carolina, also because I couldn't afford a car. There are subway and bus together in Atlanta so poor people and students can get around.
Train, only once, because it's really inconvenient. For anyone who owns a car, traveling by train is a bad option. It's slow and you will have to find a way to get another vehicle after departing the train. So, it's highly unrecommended.
POV is the best way to travel or commute, no doubt about it. Once I got a car, I never walked over five to ten minutes except for sightseeings. Car in, car out, long or short.
