Hugo Shong of IDG Divides the Chinese Internet Community

Hugo Shong is the Executive Vice President of IDG and General Partner of IDG - Accel China Fund.

He recently spoke at the Committee of 100 15th annual conference on the Internet divisions in China.

According to Shong, online gaming was born in Internet cafes in China. I don't know if this is true but I contracted second hand smoke lung cancer sitting in a bunch of those on my travels throughout China.

Consequently, Shong says...there are three groups of Internet Users in China and it would be wise for markets to think in these terms.

1. The young male - Internet Cafe bum

2.  The intellectual elite
