I just digged out a competition report I wrote about four years ago. Thought it could add some fruit in my garden.

Just came back from Capital DanceSport Competition. It's the biggest one in D.C area, maybe due to the fame of the organizers. The program in yesterday (Saturday) evening is great. It includes competitions in Pro Open Standard, Pro Open Smooth, Pro open Latin, and Pro Open Rhythm. It also staged a short Broadway style show for 5th anniversary (It's fun), which also featured pro champions in all divisions. The Pro Standard, Smooth, and Rhythm all started from quater-final, and Latin started from semi. The Smooth competition was attended by all the best dancers in US, just like a national championship. Other divisions are well attended by the top dancers as well.
I've competed in Pro/Am Open Standard Scholarship competition, the highest category for Pro/Am, and the only category in Pro/Am that can be considered as Dance Sport (It means teachers competing with their students, and both Pro and Am are judged as the partnership; while in other Pro/Am categories, only students are judged). In Capital Dance Sport scholarship competitions, all age groups competed together, while other comps may have A and B, or even C divisions. In my competition, there are 23 couples; started from quarter-final, almost all the top ones in east coast have attended. I was lucky enough to get into final (top 6).
