It is right way to go to gradually change to alternative energy from fossil fuel. But it still has long way to go.
Bio-fuel: efficiency and cost are still big problem. I saw some gas station start to provide green gas, mixed gas + bio-fuel. Cost: $5.7/g. Bio-fuel has only 63% efficiency of gas. Side Effects: food price up.
Solar Power: the cost is too high. There is no economy insentives at all before oil price higher than $200/b. Need a major technology break through to resolve that.
This is the most promising area for the future. But it still take time.
Wind Power: location constrained and less efficient.
Hydropower: limited resource.
Nuclear Power: Cost and Environment issues. US does not build any Nuclear Power Plant in past 15 years.
Ocean Wave Power: limitied and not easy to use.
The total alternative energy used in US is less than 5% of total energy consumption.
Still long way to go before the fossil fuel can be really replaced.
