有一次一位带浓重印度口音的男人打电话来推销保险,我听不懂他说的英语,只好说:
"Sorry, I can't catch you." 他说:"Is there anybody who can speak English?
I'd like to talk to him." 我回答:"I can speak English very well but I can't
understand your English with strong accent."
现在跨国大公司都是这样的啦,节约成本嘛,越大的公司越这样。我们公司用的快递公司Accounts dept在新加坡,customer service在印尼,更有趣的是technical support helpdesk在上海呢,这可比在印度强多了,起码我们大家用中文讲了,管他们英文怎么样呢。悉尼本地的技术员是个印度人,那个电话里面实在是无法沟通,他听得懂我,我听不懂他,口音实在重。我情愿打1300那个电话去上海,也不要打给本地的。上海的电话打多了,都变成好朋友了,回国还约出来吃个饭。哈哈!

如果光是银行业务也就算了,现在澳大利亚的很多电话广告公司估计都用印度的call center, 常常有印度口音的推销员打电话给我,喋喋不休得向我推销保险,手机服务之类的。你和他说不需要,他会不停的以至于我现在一听到印度口音“May I speak to Mr. chen pls", 我就回答,"oh, sorry, he is not at home at the moment, what can I help you?"
