Looking at those giants who shaped the world of fashion like: Coco Channel, Christine Dior, Yvette St Lauran... or the most recent Alexandra Queen, none of them came from a castle or a big mansion.
Coco Channel might be the worst as she grew up in an orphanage. Her legendary elegance and simplicity were shaped from her rebellion towards the vulgar taste of those women in so called upper society.
Luxury goods are simply one kind of goods. They are supposed to be neutral. Owning them or not owning them does not necessarily mean anything.
A real tasteful person should be comfortable with a thousand dollar cloth or a fifty dollar one as long as it suits him most. Audrey Hepburn is such an excellent example. She has been well recognized as a fashion icon not only a beautiful actress.
Those who think only so called noble people from castles or mansions deserve luxury goods or having a good taste are the most snobbish ones.
No one is inferior to the others unless he acknowledges he is.
