The aria, 'Tief gebückt und voller Reue,' from the cantata, Mein Herze schwimmt im Blut (BWV 199), composed in 1713 by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) for the eleventh Sunday after Trinity (setting a text by Georg Christian Lehms); performed here by the English Baroque Soloists, under the direction of Sir John Eliot Gardiner (born 20 April, 1943), with Magdalena Ko?ená, mezzo-soprano, in St Davids Cathedral, Wales.
Tief gebückt und voller Reue
Lieg ich, liebster Gott, vor dir.
Ich bekenne meine Schuld,
Aber habe doch Geduld,
Habe doch Geduld mit mir!
Deeply bowed and filled with remorse
I lie, dearest God, before Thee.
I acknowledge my guilt,
But have patience,
Have patience, I beg, with me.
