Sand or Rocks

As steady and stern as you wish
I am standing there refusing to be compromised
as much you wish to pound against
Then you ask for change
to be as far from stubborn as possible
to be shapeless and accommodating as possible
So I have to be the beach
with both sand and rocks
to let your tide run at me
to be both rugged and loose
inside out or outside in?
