If there's one thing we've learned from stalking the Instagram feeds of stylish girls around the world, it's that Australians have summer dressing down to a science. Sure, French girls may lay claim to laid-back minimalism, and Scandinavians may corner the market on sophisticated layering, but head straight to the land Down Under if you're looking for inspiration on a sweltering July day (or January, if you happen to be in the Southern hemisphere).
Case in point: Posse, a new, Sydney-based label that carries just about every piece we want to be wearing as the weather warms up, from gingham minidresses to easy linen jumpsuits. We first spotted the brand's rattan '70s Roundie bag on Camille Charrière, and we weren't the least bit surprised to hear that it's the brand's best seller—nor that it's been tricky to keep up with demand since each one is woven by hand.
Keeping things relatively local is just as important as style to the brand's DNA. "In order to steer away from mass production, we make each piece by hand, which effectively places emphasis on attention to detail," says founder Danielle Mulham. They work with women artisans in Bali to produce each piece and "passionately support fair trade and sustainable work ethics."
Which, of course, means you can feel good about placing your next order—and even better about the fact that, even with international shipping (a $35 flat fee), the prices won't blow your summer budget. Dresses, for instance, start at about $75 and go up to $220 for a silk maxi, while sandals come in under $70. And while the selection is tightly edited, the brand has plans to keep shoppers coming back for more.
"Speed to market is vital, so to keep everything fresh and exciting for our customers, we will drop a new collection each month with exclusive Posse prints and styles," Mulham says.
And if you do pick up a piece or two, just be sure to snap a photo. "While we design with individuality in mind, the most exciting moment for us is receiving feedback and imagery of each girls interpretation and style of our pieces," she says. "There is no better feeling as a label!"
