GOOD MORNING, THIS IS JULIE, HOW CAN I HELP YOU?"

“GOOD MORNING, THIS IS ANOTHER JULIE..."

"WAIT, LET ME SEE IF I CAN FIND AN EARLIER SPOT FOR YOU."

Graduated from Mayo medical school; residency in the University of North Carolina.

Year 2020-2021 was the most challenging year for schools and teachers. The coexistence of remote-teaching and in-person teaching exhausted educators. It’s understandable the schools couldn’t function as well as they used to be. His freshman year flied away quickly with not much interactions between school and parents.

I didn’t know much about his academy, but from his willingness being in school, I felt comfortable for him. I could tell he began attempting to be a hardworking person. That is all I care about.

One day, I read a story written by Sea breeze blows leisurely海风随意吹 in Wenxuecity, a Chinese literature website. The story was about a young man who was 25 years now. He has been diagnosed ADHD when he was young in China. For the kid’s sake, the family immigrated to US. Since the kid’s ADHD, he didn’t get good grades in school. He liked playing computer games, his parents accepted who he was, let him play. After graduation from high school, he went to a community college. There his logic intelligence was found and boosted by his math teacher. His growing maturity, motivation, and encouragement from his math teacher led him to start being a hardworking person. He graduated from the community college with a degree in computer science, then got a job in local high school, being in charge of the computer and internet security. The salary is not high, but good enough to take care a family.

Since the similarity between my son and that young man, I felt the story very encouraging for me. I thought that might be the road my son will go just in couple years.  The young man’s story told me even my son wouldn’t be acceptable by any regular colleges, he will be fine. He can go to community college like that boy did. If only he learns real skills there, he can find a job.

The more dramatic part of that young man’s life was how he found his fiancée. After ten years knowing as teammates in many video game competitions, finally they met in person and found they liked each other.

I shared the story with my son. He listened quietly and showed interesting. “Who moved to whom?”   when I finished my sharing, he blurted out.

His response surprised me.  Is there a similar story in this 15 year old boy's secret life?
