Fortunately, the increasingly young Indian people are gradually getting rid of outdated habits; and are bring India to enter the era of new civilization.

Jaishankar is absolutely right. The European countries did nothing when Russia invaded Crimea and part of Donbass in 2014, and went ahead with increasing oil and gas purchases from Russia and also the Nordstrom pipeline, which is what prompted Putin to try to annex the whole of Ukraine in February in the first place because they were fooled into thinking Europe would do nothing. Then when Europe is threatened, they want the US to come in and fight their war for them, despite not wanting to contribute their fair share to NATO. Even worse they want India, which is not even part of NATO and has nothing to do with the conflict to step in and save them at the cost of badly damaging India's interests by imposing sanctions on their oil purchases from Russia, when Europe is buying huge quantities of oil and gas from Russia because - well that would hurt Europe's economy, this despite the fact that Europe did nothing to support India when China attached India on more than one occasion in the past. That is a massive amount of hypocrisy. The problem for India is than when Europe eventually shifts its oil and gas purchases away from Russia, it will come from the Middle East where India currently buys its oil and gas, and that will raise prices for India's oil purchases on which India's economy is entirely dependent because the US has shut down India's option to purchase Iranian or Venezuelan oil which India has agreed to forego as a concession to the US. I think the countries and governments involved understand and accept this. It is the media and political lobbies that are pushing this hypocritical narrative.

Completely agree! I think at top governmental level an understanding has been reached b/w India and US and some members of EU. Indian refineries can refine Russian crude. Eu can also use india to buy refined Russian oil through India. Sanctions do not apply on value added goods.

Correction needed- No, India’s economy is not dependent on oil purchases
. It is the third world largest economy Also, India buys oil from Iran and many other countries. US sanctions doesn’t mean a thing.

@pragya shrivastava sir, we had to oblige USA in the past not to buy Iranian oil because of Iran going nuclear and was sanctioned USA and its affiliates
@pragya shrivastava correct… india have a independent economy and when it comes to oil dependency, we rely on Saudi Aramco and IRAN…. To be honest I don’t even know before the war , that Europe have such a big dependency on Russia for oils and gas specially Germany
@pragya shrivastava see that how we proceed in the game of strategic interests we stop buying Iranian oil because US is more important to us than Iran but in case of Russia things are not so black and white as we are still dependent on Russia for our defense purchases and you will see in near future that India will decrease that dependence. But there is another factor that US and Europe are completely ignoring and that is you can't allow Russia to be completely isolated and totally dependent on China as that would put Asia in an uncomfortable situation specially India and we don't want that.. There is no doubt be need US more than anyone but that doesn't mean we are not independent in our foreign policy and it certainly does not mean that US don't need India more.. And Indian economy is dependent on oil for now till we move to other energy sources and I hope we do it soon..
