My Hairs Stand Up in Anger

By Song Dynasty General YUE Fei

Translated by 方壶斋

My hairs stand up in anger

By the rail

The rustling rain is seen no longer

Looking up, I utter a cry

To vent my feelings and ambitions high

At thirty I belittle my warrior achievements so far

The thousands of miles expeditions under many a star

Wait no more

Lest my hairs were white all over

And I should weep later.

The shame of losing our capital

Has yet to be avenged so

My hatred as the royal’s subject

Is still something abject

How I wish to drive my chariot to rush

To the Holan Mountan enemies to crush

My hunger will make me devour the flesh of the POWs

My thirst will make me drink the blood of the Huns’ paws

And someday

We’ll regain the lost country

And to Emperor homage pay
