As a post-doc,I made some breakthrough in my research and applied for a provisional patent with myself as an inventor and my supervisor as a co-inventor. However, when it was time to apply real patent, my supervisor listed his name as inventor and mine as co-inventor wihtout asking me. I only found it out when the invention application was approved. I was realy angry at the time, but decided not to confront him about the issue. A few months later, he said he was proposing to the department to reclassify my position as assistant research professor, presumably due to his uneasiness of what he had done to me. So I am an assistant research professor, and still maintain a reasonable relationship with him. Of course, now I can write grant proposals on my own, and so I keep new ideas to myself to prevent him from using my ideas for his proposals. Patience is a virtue, indeed.
