1. First never listen to anyone else and always make your own decisions. 90% of mutual fund managers never beat the S&P 500 index in a given year. Even folks like Cramer has been wrong over 70% of his picks this year (imo)...I don't know the exact ratio but it sucks.
2. There are only three things that drive the market....earnings, greed and fear. All three are a good thing because if you understand that you can make money in all three situations.
3. Never ever margin...borrow money to invest. I lost over a half a million ($500,000) dollars when I was young on RAD (Rite Aid). I margined it when the CEO made a $25M market buy of his own stocks. He cooked the books and is serving 11 years in prison...that bastard. I got some coupons and pencils from the lawsuit (actually I think I got $8000 back)
4. There are hundreds of ways to measure the market. I keep it simple. I use only three. The Williams % R, RSI (Relative Strength Index), and Volume. Study those in Wikipedia. Yahoo's new charts has all three and a brief summary of each...and it's free. I have all the tools available to me in my job and I still use Yahoo more than anything else.
5. Never be married to a stock. Put stops in. I typically put 5%-10% trailing stops. If there is a rally...don't sell to soon. Momentum is your friend. When momentum slows be careful and really use those stops.
6. We are in a bear market right now. I have been a BULL all my life until fall of last year and jumped in completely in QID. I don't trade many stocks...only about 10 max. I have only one stock now and it's QID and have luckily made about 52% since January. Bear markets has phases...we are only in the 1st inning. Most people have not accepted that fact yet. When they do all hell will break loose. This will happen when "resistance" levels are broken. Study that term in Wikipedia. The NAZ next resistance level is around 2020. If we break through that...holy $hit will we make money.
Most importantly...remember this: Life is what is happening/passing you by when you are trying to make money so enjoy all other parts of your life...friends, family, your sweetie, etc...and have fun.
