Nuevo Flamenco derives elements from the rumba for of flamenco rhythm,as well as integrating world, jazz, and Latin music influences. Johannes Linstead, Jesse Cook,Ottmar Liebert, Oscar Lopez, Armik...are all considered as leading New Flamenco guitarists in the United States and Canada.

So much information that I'm interested in! Thanks, Rebecca!

Benedetti & Svoboda Guitar Duo

Fred Benedetti and George Svoboda have been playing together for over nineteen years. The duo has been performing regularly in the United States, and Mexico and has had successful European tours which included performances in England, Germany and the Czech Republic.

Presently Fred Benedetti is a full-time professor of music at Grossmont College where he is chair of guitar studies. Fred performs on guitars built by Miguel Rodriguez, Jose Ramirez, Simon Marty, James Goodall, and Bob Taylor.

George Svoboda was praised by San Diego Tribune staff writer Bob Corbett as, "a first-class musician, top-drawer stuff...his fingers seem to fly effortlessly across the guitar strings. The music that results is full of life. It's happy.''

Benedetti & Svoboda are known as engaging and entertaining performers whose tunes can stir up emotions in the deepest corners of the soul. Their music ranges from peaceful melancholy to cascades of furious flamenco rasgueados. They are not only performers, but have also gained recognition as composers and arrangers of music. Their music has won them consistent praise from audiences, musicians and critics alike. (Source: Internet)

New Flamenco
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nuevo Flamenco ("New Flamenco") is synonymous with contemporary flamenco and is a modern derivative of traditional flamenco.

It is widely accepted that Nuevo Flamenco started in 1975 with the Lole y Manuel first album Nuevo Día. Although the most important early pioneers of modern flamenco are widely accepted to be the guitarist Paco de Lucía, and singer Camarón de la Isla, other musical genres have also played a key role in influencing nuevo flamenco. The central focal points of this genre are compás (rhythm), baile (dance), and cante (song). Although the guitar is arguably the most common instrument in flamenco, it is said that the person playing the instrument is flamenco, not the instrument itself.

A few of today's leading New Flamenco guitarists in the United States and Canada are Johannes Linstead, Jesse Cook, Peter Z, KAWEH, Ottmar Liebert, Oscar Lopez, Armik, Andrei Krylov, Arturo Martinez, Chuscales, Val Ramos, Jose Ramon Ramos, Denis Koster, Wayne Wesley Johnson, and Adam Del Monte. While these artists are not considered "flamenca pura" (pure flamenco), they derive elements from the rumba for of flamenco 'compas' (rhythm),as well as integrating world, jazz, and Latin music influences.
