We are number 1 again !The Johns Hopkins Hospital has again earned the top spot as "Best of the Best" in U.S. News & World Report's annual Honor Roll of American hospitals, placing first in 3 of 16 ranked medical specialties and in the top six in 12 others. Only 21 hospitals nationwide made it to the Honor Roll this year out of 4,861 institutions graded.Yet again, the magazine, along with medical specialists across the nation, has affirmed the excellence of our faculty physicians, nurses and staff. This recognition belongs to all of you and to the community physicians whose contributions to Johns Hopkins Medicine are significant.This year's annual guide reports results of a survey of a hospital's reputation among a national sample of board-certified specialty physicians, along with analysis of objective indicators including death rates, advanced technology, volume, nurse staffing and other patient-related information.In addition to landing at the overall #1 spot on the Honor Roll by accumulating 30 points in 15 specialties, The Johns Hopkins Hospital ranked:#1 in Ear, Nose & Throat, Rheumatology and Urology #2 in Geriatric Care, Gynecology, Neurology & Neurosurgery, Ophthalmology (Wilmer Eye Institute) and Psychiatry; #3 in Cancer, Digestive Diseases, Diabetes & Endocrine Disorders, Heart & Heart Surgery, and Respiratory Disorders #5 in Orthopaedics #6 in Kidney Disorders #16 in Rehabilitation."Team Bayview" was ranked in 3 of 16 specialties:#11 in Geriatric Care (ranked #23 in 2008) #44 in Diabetes and Endocrine Disorders (ranked #48 in 2008) #47 in Respiratory Disorders (new ranking!)
