This will be the depository of information for gold mining. (Dec 23, 2012)
Areas of interest: Arizona, Nevada, Alaska, BC, and Yukon. To avoid complexity, focus is on BC and Yukon.
Types of gold mining: hard rock mining, placer mining. Hard rock mining is highly expensive, normally large scale, requires intensive capital. Placer mining is normally small scale, from one person to a dozen people. Placer mining is basically washing dirt to get gold.
Placer Deposits: Along rivers, creeks, old rivers, old creeks. Gold along rivers and creeks are washed from veins in hard rocks. Sand/Gravel Bars in rivers inside turns.
BC Gold Rush area: The Cariboo
Yukon Gold Rush area: the Klondike
Each claim is 500 X 2,000 feet with 2,000 feet being the width perpendicular to the river/creek. It may be different for different claims? (Dec 27, 2012)
BC: Has to be a permanent resident at least to get a BCeID, then get a Free Miner Certificate. Then it is ready to make a claim. Claim can be made online, physical staking is not required any more. Got my BCeID and Free Miner Certificate today.
Yukon: Anybody (in the world?) over 18 can make a claim. But a person has to do physical staking to make a claim, which means to make a claim, one has to go to Yukon. The weather is not good for staking for half of the year. (Dec 28, 2012)
BC Claim: $5/hector. Maintenance: $20/hector work, or $40/hector pay in lieu of work. These fees creased 100% from 2011. It used to to much cheaper. Area for a cell: 21 hectors in the south, 16 hectors in the north, somewhere between these two numbers, so for a 20 hector cell, the maintenance pay in lieu of work is $800 per year, not a small number since people claim a lot more than one cell.
Yukon: $10 for each cell, each cell is 500 feet X 2,000 feet, or about 23 acres. 500 feet is along the river or creek length. Claimer has to physically stake the cell. $200 work has to be done to each cell each year, and no payment in lieu of work can be done. Up to ten claims can be grouped together so that work can be done to one or two cells but can be distributed to other cells, this way the prospector does not have to do $200 worth of work to each and every cell. (January 1st, 2013)
OMG, I made my first claim yesterday. Three cells, total 62.14 hectares. On the Fraser River. In the Summer, I am going to drive up there and dig some dirt to see if there is anything in it. (Jan 8, 2013)
I have been reading a lot recently about gold rushes and geology, mainly of Yukon and BC. When I read about stories, I try to verify with the map to figure out where they happened. Also, I use google map to get an idea the topology of the areas.
Went to Resource Conference today. There are a lot of junior companies in the show, or the majority are junior companies. Also, the majority of them are in gold mining, others are in silver, platinum, copper, iron, coal, and granite. Talk to a prospector whose website I read a while ago. He is based in Houston, BC and has several projects going in nearby mountains. There are some rock samples with several minerals including gold and silver. Collected a lot of flyers, and I want to check where they are prospecting and drilling, especially in BC and Yukon.
After the conference, went to a supply store, and bought a gold pan, a rock pick hammer, and a work vest. (January 21, 2013)

Claimed a big island on the Fraser today, 11 cells, over 200 hectares, the usable area should be more than 100 hectares.(Feb 4, 2013)
Went to Resource Roundup Exhibition on January 28 and 29, 2013. Talked to prospectors and companies, saw a lot of rocks and drilling samples.
Focus on research of BC. Made second claim in BC. (Feb 3, 2013)
