Hollywood stars earning $250,000 for wearing red carpet dresses

It's no secret that when the worlds of fashion and celebrity combine, money often exchanges hands. Last year it was reported that £60,000 would secure a brand Rihanna or Beyoncé on their front row, while £40,000 would get someone like actress and fashion plate Chloe Sevigny.

But those figures are small change in comparison to how much some high-profile celebrities can be paid just to wear a dress to an awards ceremony.

Speaking at New York Magazine's Vulture Festival, and reported by Fashionista, Hollywood stylist Jessica Paster - whose clients include Emily Blunt and Miranda Kerr - admitted that some actresses can expect to receive between $100,000 and $250,000 (approx £65,000 to £160,000) from a brand for simply wearing one of their dresses to an awards show.

"If it looks awful on you, $100,000 or $250,000 is not worth it," she said. "But if it looks gorgeous and this is the dress you were going to pick anyway, why not get paid?"

This fortune also rubs off on the stylist; Paster revealed that such a 'deal' could also see her earning an additional $30,000 to $50,000 (approx. £20,000 to £33,000) for the sartorial transaction. She noted that these arrangements never involve a contract, so if the actress decides at the last minute not to wear the dress, then no money will change hands.

"Let's not forget that when [designers] make these custom dresses, they're spending about $100,000 dollars, so someone is getting paid," she added.

Fellow stylist Brandon Maxwell (who works with Lady Gaga) reinforced the relationship between stylists, celebs and money. "The whole point of having a stylist is that you can make more money, or more people will want to hire you or the brand that you're wearing is making more money because it's driving sales," he said. "It's all wrapped up in money. It's Hollywood, we're not at church!"
