几天前看到某网友(谢谢她)在她愽文有段英文是关于Martha Graham 写给Agnes De Mille 的一封信. 挺感兴趣, 去查了些有关这封信背景的英文. 这封信是属于励志型的.

Keep the Channel Open

There is a vitality,
a life force,
a quickening
that is translated through you into action,
and because there is only one of you in all time,
this expression is unique.
And If you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and be lost.
The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine
how good it is
nor how valuable it is
nor how it compares with other expressions.
It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly
to keep the channel open.
You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work.
You have to keep open and aware directly to the urges that motivate YOU.

注: 我的理解是这封信的中心是Martha 告诉她: 她是很有天赋的, 去做自己, 不用在乎别人怎么看. 保持进取和探索, 去追求理想和梦想. 这封信我想也适合于去鼓励任何对自己有怀疑对自己不那么自信的人.
“Keep the channel open” is something like to “explore”, “to follow your dream”, and things like in that nature.
